Infosys layoffs 2009 : getting rid of white elephants

Posted by atreyee on April 13, 2009

IT sector seems the maximum hurt following Satyam fiasco and global slowdown. Global IT giant IBM has dismissed many side employees. Indian IT biggies too are showing the door to many of their recent recruits.

Infosys, India’s premier IT Company, has not shown promise in the last quarter. It is facing some monetary hassle. To minimize the effect, there is comprehensive plan for Infosys 2009 Layoffs. This means that Infosys is going to sack it’s new and probation employees this year. This may be harsh to the latter’s future. But practical sense has to prevail.

Infosys layoffs will be at the rate of 5% of the total employees. This is a steep rise from the previous 1.5%. The reason being given for Infosys layoff 2009 is non-performance. Infosys fires come at a crucial world economic junction. Even a few core non-performing employees will be dismissed. This will be done secretly and many top-notch officials will not have any prior information for fear of leaks.

According to Infosys news, the company is not willing to carry white elephants any more and so Infosys firing employees is but natural. The other companies have written off as many as 4000 employees off their payroll.

Just as the good-for-nothing Ultimatix was replaced by Automatix some time back, Infosys must be having alternative plans.

Though Baisakhi (also known as Vaisakhi) is celebrated in many parts of northern India, its presence is strongest in Punjab.

Baisakhi 2009 finds itself in the digital age and thus the occasion is seeing to a lot of Baisakhi SMS flying from each corner. Baisakhi greetings are doing the rounds too. Not many of us know but there is still bigger importance of Baisakhi festival. The occasion is also used to commemorate the identification of Sikhs as a special group living by pre-determined sets of rules. The occasion relives this bond made with the secular country that India is. Its origins can be traced to ‘Khalsa Panth’ founded by Guru Govind Singh in 1699.

The sun enters Aries on the day of Baisakhi and thus the festival also marks the beginning of Solar Year. Just as the first rays of the sun touch the anticipating earth, many people in north India take a holy dip.

People across the lengths and breadths of northern India sing and dance and also have the best of Baisakhi recipes during this time. Baisakhi wishes are perched on each lip and even the enemies share “Happy Baisakhi” pleasantries.

Gmail new features introduce inline image support

Posted by atreyee on April 13, 2009

Google, the king of innovation, has added yet another arrow to its quiver. Gmail new feature refers to inline images. It was expected that it is only a matter of time when Google adds inline images

Google users may now add inline images in Gmail without much fuss and enthrall the reader. For those who wish to email inline images, they may choose the embedded heading from the list of features. The toolbar will show the option as a result. Now the user may choose the image directly from his image collections and add in the email. He may also add URL that translates into the image on the receiver’s side.

Gmail inline image support has made Google’s emphasis on interface projections stronger. This is going to add clients for Google. Also, there will be an increase in designers who will create specific inline image designs and capitalize later.

Presently, however, Google needs the sender’s PC to be richly formatted. Else the icon may not show up. There is scope for only one image attachment per mail now. And the receiver should also be having strongly formatted system.

This is just the start and one assumes that when you send pictures inline in near future, the recipient will certainly have a visual delight to enjoy.

Acer Aspire One – portability and affordability at its best

Posted by atreyee on April 10, 2009

Acer is always known to rule the hearts of the technology-freaks with its unique innovations. The new Acer Aspire is an addition to the list. Aspire One is an ultra portable notebook and is widely accepted by the gadget-lovers in the recent times. Some lovingly describe it as a sub-notebook. Though it looks very simple, it gives a tough time to some who find it a bit complicated and hard to handle.

Photogenic appearance

Then what makes this notebook gain such mass appeal? Firstly, it comes in a striking black color, which makes it easy to be photographed. The keyboard is decently sized and is quite comfortable. The firm grip is sure to give you quite a gratifying feel. A small plastic frame dimensioning 245 mm x 165 mm x 25 mm practically has everything installed in it and makes it a perfect choice for those who would simply want it for browsing net and accomplishing simple office tasks.

Technically strong

Packed with a 512 MB RAM, an 8 GB SSD storage drive, a 1.6 GHz Atom CPU, and an 802.11 g/b wireless card, gives it a winning edge over others falling under the same classification. It also has a webcam, which is not so tempting but functions well enough. You can always go for an upgrade if you feel a bit dissatisfied with its technical constraints. Whatever you wish you can throw it in – be it expanding the storage or throwing in an extra slice of RAM. The model also features the Linpus Linux Lite operating system and the applications are well-organized into distinct sections, such as, Connect, Work, Fun, and Files.

In terms of connectivity

In terms of connectivity, Acer Aspire One runs on standard gamut with 3 USB ports and an SD card reader. This notebook is also equipped with an Ethernet port along with headphone and microphone ports with Dual memory features. Another port to add some exotic flavors gives it an extra edge over its contemporaries.

Performance metrics

It’s always better to judge Acer Aspire One in terms of portability rather than performance. Weighing only about two pounds, it’s a sheer delight to carry this notebook to work or to accomplish other personal errands. It will be a strict no-no to run speeds tests on Acer Aspire One. It also comes with a one-year International Travelers Warranty (ITW).

The right ‘Shift’ not being undersized will be a boon to the touch-typists. The soft rounded edge with a glossy surface is quite comfortable to hold.

To sum up

Acer Aspire One is desired by one and all not only because it is highly portable but also because it is quite affordable and user-friendly. The only bad thing is its wimpy battery life and the fact that it comes without Bluetooth. But overall, it rocks with its attractive, slim design and easy availability with a low price tag.

Good Friday 2009 – redefining martyrdom

Posted by atreyee on April 10, 2009

Good Friday or Black Friday commemorates the event of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. A few suggest that Good’s connotation is God while other Catholics believe that the word has to do with the idea of selfless sacrifice and martyrdom.

Good Friday 2009 will be no different. It is about to be celebrated with same hype and frenzy. It’s a day of observing fast and sending out Good Friday wishes and Good Friday quotes. Good Friday is observed a couple of days before Easter Sunday. Good Friday throws light on the festival of love, vitality and spirit. It shows the power of giving yourself up for a noble cause.

If the founder of Christianity could do it, the followers of Christianity can try it too. Good Friday quotes are prevalent in all parts of the world. Christians are flushed with Good Friday wishes perched on their lips and Good Friday Easter Sunday on their souls. The Good Friday Easter Sunday connection is part of the Paschal Triduum and often intercepts the Passover.

A few believe that Jesus was crucified in 33 AD while celebrated scientist Newton believes that it was 34 AD. However it might stand, we have celebrated nearly couple of thousands of years of Jesus Good Friday.

Try knowing more about Good Friday and keep Good Friday greetings handy. The Jesus wave is about to strike.

Accordingly, the amount increases or decreases. The expense of a home improvement loan can either be paid out of savings account or by availing other kinds of loans, namely store cards or credit cards. The later ones can prove to be quite a pinch on the borrower’s pocket if s/he fails to repay the amount on time. The interest charged on store cards can range as high as 25%-30%, whereas the credit card interest rates hit 15%-18%, which is also on the higher side. Another option that home improvement loan borrowers often avail in funding their home improvement projects is personal loan.

There are some home improvement projects, which fail to get accommodated within the savings account, credit card or score card balance. In that case, the borrowers can opt for refinancing their home improvement loan or opt for further advance on a mortgage. They can even opt for unsecured loan with a variable rate of interest, or an unsecured loan, which offers a flat interest rate.
